UNITED
NATIONS INFORMATION CENTRE FOR THE PHILIPPINES
The UN Information Centre (UNIC) promotes awareness of and
support for all the goals and activities of the United Nations.
It helps people be heard and understand better what the United
Nations is doing to make a difference in their lives. UNIC’s
purposes are achieved through:
Information Materials
UNIC provides services to the public that range from responding
to general inquiries about the United Nations to organizing
events commemorating special observances. Journalists, researchers,
educators and non-governmental organizations also rely on
UNIC for the latest United Nations information materials in
local languages.
Media
To reach an even broader audience, UNIC is in daily contact
with local and national media outlets. UNIC staff produce
press releases, brief the media on issues on the United Nations
agenda, contribute articles to newspapers and appear on national
radio and television programmes. Journalists rely on UNIC
as an authoritative source of information about the United
Nations.
Civic Society
UNIC works in partnership with members of civil society who
are actively involved on issues of concern to the United Nations.
Non-governmental organizations are UNIC partners in organizing
seminars, exhibits and commemorative events focusing on such
key issues as human rights, education, the environment, drug
prevention and health care, peace and security, sustainable
development, and many others.
Youth/Schools
Recognizing that today's youth will be tomorrow's leaders,
UNIC involves young people in the following programmes:
- Briefings and exhibits on UN special observances, themes,
and issues
- UN corners in schools and
- Student internships
