UNCT WORKING GROUP ON DECENTRALIZATION AND GOVERNANCE

The Working Group on Decentralization and Governance is looking to consolidate Mapping initiatives by geographic and thematic concerns; ensure regular publication (quarterly) of the UNDAF “wall news” nationwide; pursue a series of multi-stakeholder activities on local governance as a follow-up to 10:10:10, and support capability-building activities for LGUs. By so doing, it hopes this year to forge better strategic partnerships with government, civil society, the private sector and donors, and develop LGU capacities for good governance, among others.

Collaboration in Eradicating Poverty and Hunger

The Task Force on Decentralization and Governance (UNDP–led with UNFPA, FAO, UNICEF, ILO, UNESCO, UNHCR, ADB, WB) supported the decentralization campaign called “Project 10:10:10”, highlighted by the the following:

• Holding of the First Philippine Local Governance Congress attended by 3,000 delegates, during which an agreement was reached to give priority to amending the Local Government Code and for the automatic release of the internal revenue allotment of LGUs,
  
• Launching of 15 new initiatives on local governance which included projects supported by UNICEF, UNDP-UNCHS AND UNFPA,
  
• Common UN exhibit on governance initiatives,
  
• Publishing of UN “wall news” on governance,
  
• Joint resolution of 15 international development partners to support local governance and decentralization, and
  
• Workshops on decentralization.
