WORKING GROUP ON ECONOMIC SECURITY
The Economic Security Working Group is looking to enhance
the capacity an d commitment to plan and deliver development
assistance for vulnerable and marginalised groups, including
Indigenous Peoples (IPs); marginalised farmers and fishermen;
the informal sector; and the government’s capability
to implement the World Food Summit Plan of Action.
Collaboration in Eradicating Poverty
and Hunger
The Task Force
on the Informal Sector (ILO– led with UNDP, UNAIDS,
FAO) set up a Project Advisory Committee (PAC) to develop
a policy and programme for the promotion and protection of
the informal sector. Government, employers, trade unions,
informal sector associations and UN agencies sit on the committee.
The PAC was created through the ILO/UNDP programme, but serves
as the UNDAF Working Group for the Informal Sector.
The Task Force on Sustainable
Livelihood and Food Security (FAO-led with ILO, UNDP,
UNFPA, UNHCR, UNICEF, WHO, WB) undertook the following:
- Prepared a report on the progress of implementation of
the World Food Summit Plan of Action;
- Initiated, with the National Nutrition Council, the preparation
and operationalisation of Food Insecurities Vulnerability
Indicators Mapping System;
- Coordinated with the Department of Agriculture in preparing
a proposal to implement the Special Programme for Food Security
in the country;
- Coordinated the preparation/completion of the Study on
Sustained Growth, Poverty and Household Insecurity in the
Philippines, to help government craft responsive policies.
The Task Force on Indigenous
Peoples (ILO-led with UNFPA, FAO, UNDP, UNESCO) was
responsible for the following initiatives:
- Conduct of policy-oriented development forums to promote
closer cooperation and enhance information flow among the
UNCT and Bretton Woods institutions;
- Adoption of a “National Capacity-Building Program
for the Empowerment of Indigenous People for the Sustainable
Management of Ancestral Domain” by government;
- Conduct of a study on the coping mechanisms of selected
IP groups in Mindanao;
- Conduct of ongoing research on the use of Indigenous
Knowledge Systems and Practice in six IP communities
